The Void Adventure

The only reason that you feel the way you do is because you’re trying to live up to the standards placed by the mask that you wear each day.
Who is the “you” that is upset now?
Tell me, did you already forget who you are?
Do you really not remember?
Well if so, I guess that’s the point of it all no?
To dive so deeply that you forget
How else will you go all the way?
However you called out for me
You asked me to walk life with you
To get off my swing.
To not just observe but participate in this game with you.
As a mentor of sorts for you.
All I can do is remind you
Remind you who you are.
All else falls once the mask is uncovered.

I realize how often I wear a mask, a facade created to meet the expectations and standards of others. This mask, though it serves a purpose, often leads me away from my true self. It’s easy to get lost in the role I play, forgetting the core of who I am. The discomfort and discontent I feel are signs that I am living inauthentically, trying to uphold an image that doesn’t align with my true nature.

Unmasking the true self is a profound act of courage. It requires me to confront the aspects of my identity that I have hidden or suppressed. This process is not about rejecting the mask entirely but understanding when and why I wear it. By doing so, I can begin to live more authentically, aligning my actions and decisions with my true self rather than the expectations of others.

The question, “Who is the ‘you’ that is upset now?” is a powerful reminder to check in with myself. It prompts me to differentiate between the ego-driven identity and the deeper, more authentic self. This distinction is crucial for understanding the root of my emotions and behaviors. It’s not about eliminating the ego but integrating it in a way that serves my higher purpose.

The idea of diving so deeply that I forget who I am is both terrifying and liberating. It suggests a journey into the depths of my consciousness, beyond the superficial layers of identity. This journey is essential for self-discovery and growth. It allows me to explore parts of myself that are often overshadowed by the mask I wear. In forgetting, I find the opportunity to rediscover and reimagine who I am.

Having a mentor or guide in this process is invaluable. This mentor, whether an external figure or an inner voice of wisdom, serves as a constant reminder of my true self. They help me navigate the complexities of identity and authenticity, providing guidance and support. The role of the mentor is not to impose their own identity but to help me uncover mine.

The act of reminding myself who I am is a continuous practice. It involves regular self-reflection and mindfulness. By taking moments to pause and reconnect with my true self, I can strip away the layers of the mask. This practice helps me stay grounded and true to my values and aspirations. It ensures that I am living a life that is genuinely my own.

In this reflective space, I understand that uncovering the mask is not about rejecting the parts of me that wear it but about embracing the whole self. It’s about recognizing that the mask is just one layer of my identity and that beneath it lies a deeper, more authentic self. This awareness empowers me to live with greater integrity and purpose.

As I prepare to face each new day, these reflections ground me. They remind me that living authentically is a journey, not a destination. Each day is an opportunity to peel back the layers of the mask and reconnect with my true self. By embracing this journey, I can navigate life with clarity and confidence, knowing that I am walking a path that is truly my own.
